Testing of electric power steering racks and columns with controller MS561 has always been possible only with the use of special diagnostics cables. This has been limiting the range of tested units. Sometimes the cable for diagnostics of some particular unit could be unavailable while buying it wouldn’t be a good idea either. Universal cable MS-35670 has become a solution to the problem. It helps to connect and test a great number of units: steering racks, columns, and pumps operating under CAN protocol.
However, the potential of universal cable MS-37670 has some limitations: for example, the cable cannot diagnose the following:
- units operating under FlexRay protocol;
- units operating under two CAN buses;
- EHPS pumps controlled with special signals;
- steering racks with external control units, mostly by Asian manufactures;
Units under load cannot be tested with universal cable MS-35670 as well.
It’s important to remember that universal cable MS-35670 should be used by qualified mechanics only as the improper connection of the cable to the tested unit can cause damage to the latter. If you lack the knowledge and practical experience in diagnostics of such units, we strongly recommend to use special diagnostic cables or take a course at MSG Equipment training center.

The range of units to be tested can we significantly extended if the universal cable MS-35670 is used as intended. It ought to be noted once again that the universal cable is not a fully-featured substitute of special diagnostic cables as it takes much more time to connect to the tested unit, the connection itself is less durable and needs more caution. We advise you to use special diagnostic cables for testing the most common units. The universal cable should be used in some isolated cases when it is absolutely required.
