Continuous expansion and upgrading of electronic systems in present-day vehicles give rise to innovative technologies. As a result, in the latest models of German vehicles (AUDI, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen) instead of the old classic CAN bus, a new FlexRay bus is used for communication between an EPS rack and electronic control units. A FlexRay bus has been developed to meet the increasingly stringent requirements for data exchange systems, especially regarding their transmission speed and data volume, as well as its realtime performance and reliability.
In case of EPS system failure, special repair devices and tools will enable its precise diagnostics separately from a car, detection and location of faults, quality repair and post-maintenance run of the unit.
A new cable must be developed individually for each model of a steering rack since a control unit of every steering rack has its code and is uniquely synchronized. Currently our company designed seven FlexRay cables. Each of them is equipped with an individual control unit which enables it to synchronize with a certain steering rack and transmit all the necessary data. This way, the same operations that are performed when a steering rack is installed in the car, can be carried out separately from it, i.e. when the unit is dismantled:
- detection and elimination of faults;
- real-time data reading;
- reading information stored in the control unit;
- coding;
- software updating;
- calibration of sensors;
- other operations
We follow the traditions and ensure an easy operation of our equipment. To perform diagnostics of a steering rack operating under protocol FlexRay, it is necessary to connect cable FlexRay to both: Controller MS561 and a steering rack. The diagnostic procedure is the same as for a steering rack operating via the CAN bus.
Therefore, Controller 561 is a universal device for diagnostics and repair of steering racks. Cables FlexRay add functionality to the device. Today cables FlexRay can be considered the only tool for a complete diagnostics and quality repair of steering racks operating under protocol FlexRay.
