A gland packing provides sealing during shaft rotation. It’s important to replace this element each time when the compressor is being disassembled. If the same gland packing is installed again, the system will start to leak soon. When replacing the gland packing, inspect thoroughly the condition of the shaft – leaking of the gland packing can result from a number of troubles, including shaft corrosion. Before replacing the gland packing, the cause of the leakage should be removed.
