Constant changes aimed at increasing the efficiency of internal combustion engines and reducing emissions of harmful substances are occurring in the automotive industry worldwide. All these changes lead to the complication of the design of vehicle units and assemblies.
Following tradition, we continuously improve our equipment to ensure its relevance over an extended period. Our test bench for diagnosing alternators and starters MS005, has received further enhancements, which we would like to elaborate on below.
New features of the updated MS005 test bench:
1. Expanded list of diagnosed assemblies. It is now possible to diagnose belt-driven starter-generators at 48 V, controlled via the CAN bus. Diagnosing such alternators is possible in both alternator and starter modes. Additionally, there is now the capability to connect a diagnostic scanner to the 48 V belt starter generator to ensure comprehensive diagnostics of this complex assembly.
2. An automatic diagnostic mode for starters has been added, with report generation capability, which can be printed on an external standard printer.
3. The automatic diagnostic mode for alternators now offers two testing options:
- "Quick" test for alternators based on key criteria;
- "Advanced" - testing based on the maximum number of criteria with obtaining the current-speed characteristic of the alternator.
Upon completion of either test option, a report is generated, which can also be printed on an external printer.

4. Another innovation in the automatic diagnostic mode for alternators is the ability to customize the auto-test algorithm according to preference. Additionally, it is possible to modify the content and appearance of the diagnostic report with alternator diagnosis results.
How to access the new capabilities of the MS005 test bench?
To expand the capabilities of your test bench, it is necessary to update its software. This can be done very simply:
- Connect the test bench to the internet.
- Upon its activation, the test bench will automatically find the latest version of the software and update it. You only need to confirm consent to update the software on the test bench screen.
However, the function of diagnosing 48 V belt starter generators will be available not to all but only to benches manufactured after September 2023.
